Join Portland curator and verified film nut Dennis Nyback for a one-time-only downtown walking tour of some of the key sites that have played a significant role in the city’s film history. Through the tour, we’ll stroll through nearly 100 years of motion pictures in the Rose City, from the early wild film scene in the ‘10s and ‘20s to our modern era.

Nyback, former operator of the Clinton Street Theater, will provide insight into the rich filmography of the city. Dennis will give a history lesson, showing the sites of the very first movie theaters in Portland and their historic ties to the development of Portland – as well a personalized narrative – of failed film ventures, of his favorite filmic stories, of celluloid lost to the dustbins and how these memories have shaped his professional life.

This not-to-be-missed tour will provide a personal history of Nyback’s own experiences growing up and working in the film industry – from working as a projectionist to a life on the road that included owning movie theaters in Seattle, New York City and Portland, and being a featured guest at film festivals around the world.
